+ memory card storage, and sound quality via DAB, looks. Much better than Bose
- doesn't come with a memory card, and no guidance on how best to store and access data via this medium. It would be nice if it came with a cable to connect to ipod or mp3 headphone socket

+ Very good appearance and compact size; sound quality very good; fairly easy to use..
- Hand control is poor quality and not very positive; why go to so much trouble to produce such a good product and then let it down on the controls.

Bob, Derby, “Like 60's, Classical &”
+ Fantastic sound quality- rivals (and beats) more expensive alternative.Lovely piano black finish to case. Switching off power does not lose stations, it does lose the clock settings but these self retune when first switched on to a Dab station. Sound fills the room with a bass enhancement switch on back.Optical output link. Remote control. Scrolling text. Plays from CD,SD card (MP3 & WMA).. Alarm - etc etc
- Blue light can be a little too bright. Dab signal strength dependant on your location.

+ For price, the package, sound and features is superb
- If I had to be picky, the remote is a bit clumsy.

+ I traded-in my 5-year-old Bose Wave radio/CD and bought the Roberts with the proceeds (with some change), which tells about the relative cost of the two. Dab sound from the Roberts is excellent, CD operation is smooth and the fact that it comes with USB interface is a bonus: good to choose from over 1000 tracks on a single USB stick. Looks and build quality are very good, though it is slightly bulkier than the Bose. I would disagree with other reviewers about the remote: it's no more flimsy than the Bose remote and has better functionality.
- This is a complaint you'll read elsewhere and believe me, it's absolutely true. If you want to use the Roberts in your bedroom, you'll either need to be happy sleeping bathed in bright blue light, or, like me, you'll have to improvise a shrowd to cover the ridiculously bright light, which barely dims when you switch the set off. Even with the set 10 feet away, the entire room is lit and it's very annoying.

+ THIS MODEL DOES ALMOST EVERYTHING FOR YOU ONCE PLUGED IN IT SEARCHES FOR ALL THE CHANNELS FOR YOU , GREAT CLEAR SOUND REPRODUCTION,MORE VOLUME THAN YOU WILL EVER NEED CD SOUND GREAT ALSO , ALL IN ALL A NICE ITEM COMES IN A NICE PIANO FINISH CABINET I WOULD RECOMEND THIS DAB UNIT FROM A NAME TO TRUST ROBERTS.
- BACK LIGHT ON CLOCK/ DISPLAY RATHER BRIGHT WOULD BENEFIT FROM A DIMMER SWITCH.

- The remote could be more substantial-difficult to operate.

+ Great looks with shiney piano black, compact one box design excellent for small spaces, remarkably good bass for size, not exactly Hi-Fi but it is very good in smallish room, gets lost in larger one.
- Only one gripe really, there is only one button on the unit itself, the volume, everything else is controlled by one of the worste cheap & nasty remote controls I have ever had the displeasure to use, come on Roberts you can do better, this spoils an otherwise nice peice of kit.

+ powerful sound from a small machine. very smooth & sleek design. the DAB digital radio tunes in perfectly. the most impressive function for me is the wma-mp3 cd play back facility. I have digitalised my entire music collection (put it all on my computer!) and have been looking around for a machine with wma-mp3 playback. I have found other machines that do this but not as well as ROBERTS MP23, other machines I've tried lack the sound volume capability I'm after, in other words-they sound a bit tinny. GREAT MACHINE, ENJOY!
- Quite a pricey machine, but then you are getting value for money. The only problem I've found with wma-mp3 playback is it dosn't appaer to like play lists over the size of 99. If like me you like to arrange certain tracks in order because some songs just can't be played after the other etc! then just make a compilation of 99 on your PC to burn as a playback CD. you can create about 150 tunes playback on CD, ROBERTS MP23 may read track 100 as track 10 etc, which you may find anoying.

- remote control needs to be square on to receiver to work.

+ Excellent sound quality, plays at high volume for a relatively small unit without distorting. I previously had a TEAC CD player and DAB which was far inferior all round. It also is one of the few on the market that plays SD cards and has an input for an MP3 at the front.
- Not many. The SD card plays fine but you have to scroll through the tracks. The titles appear on the screen so it is not too onerous but really it is the only criticism I can find so far.

- The DAB delay is different to (longer than) our 3 Pure radios, so we can't use them at the same time

+ Fantastic sound. Good looks. I was originally looking at the Bose but was put off by the price tag and the fact that the DAB was a seperate unit, when I read some reviews of this great piece of kit. This is all in one perfect unit, I am thrilled with it. The sound is absolutely amazing. Exactly what I needed for my kitchen.
- Need to be quite close with the remote. Display looks like it is flashing rather than scrolling from across a room

Jon, Knutsford
+ Although time is lost when turned off, it returns when DAB/FM is turned on. A great, stylish 'one-box' sound system - powerful and distortion free. Not true stereo hi-fi, however, an excellent compromise if you don't want wires all over the place.
- Can't record programmes (although you can pause DAB for up to 20 minutes). AUX input is at the back - this could be a good or bad point depending on where exactly you position the product, and it doesn't cost much to leave a spare cable permanently plugged in and accessible from the front, if the back of the player is not very accessible - just means a visible wire.

Mike, Birmingham, “Soul Music Lover”
+ Sound is really good on DAB, FM & CD considering the size & price. The range of fomats supported is good & the build quality even better.
- Cannot turn off or even dim the blue light that shows station info etc. Could be quite a problem if used in the bedroom. Head phone socket is at the rear when it should be at the front or at least on the side for easy access. It only comes in one colour which is daft for what's being sold as a 'life style' product.

+ The cd player produces excellent sound quality.
- The tuner is very poor on FM and DAB. I have to move it around the room to get just the right location for good signal reception. The change from one station to another is slow. The power plug sticks out at the back so it can't be pushed flush to the wall. My car radio is ten times better. I'm sorry I bought it.

Myanah, London
+ Sound quality is excellent. Appearance very attractive - an asset to the room. Compatibility with my I-Pod a real plus. If you know how DAB radios work, very easy to set up and operate. Good manual.
- No manual controls, so if I lose the remote I'm lost. The remote does not work very well, the buttons are very small and the soft surface means you have to depress them several times very near the machine to operate them. The lead advertised with it did not work with the I-Pod so I had to buy another lead.

+ It's beautiful to look at and it has a great sound. C.Ds and radio sound great in my large, high cielinged kitchen.
- The clock has to be re-set if the power is lost, even for a moment. It's a bit too 'basey'. You can fiddle with the settings but it doesn't solve the problem.
29 Jul 2008
Terry, Ilkeston, “i like word radio”
+ Good to look at, ease of use
- Ariel not sensitive enough. Does not pick up the DAB as well as the cheap Goodmans DAB radio I have though the overall quality is far better. e.g. I can't pick up The Arrow station at all. the display is variable too

- The remote control. You practically have to stand right next to the product for it to respond and that's often after pressing the buttons numerous times.

+ sd card reader, good quality sound
- bass too deep, cheap remote control, no dimmer light
17 Oct 2008
Bob, Leicester, “silver surfer/technophobe”
+ good sound & design
- bright blue background light distracting in bedroom enviroment - light dimmer control needed - have to be precise with remote control alignment. Digital radio reception noticeable delay of transmission compared to my Pure Evoke3/Pure DTM 300 & Roberts RD1. ie digital reception of MP23 cannot be synchronised with the other radios when receiving the same channel, not a problem if you only have the MP23 on, However I have 4 digital radios in different rooms & sometimes like to have a "surround sound" enviroment.

+ Nicely styled, well constructed and finished. For a small unit it provides a good amount of volume with clarity and gives clear radio reception.
- Could do with a few more buttons on the main unit - if the remote went awol we'd be a bit stuck.

+ The sound is great and it is easy to operate.
- The i-Pod does not work properly through the USB connection. The i-Pod screen is not dispayed and shows the words "Do not disconnect". This means it is impossible to oprerate the i-Pod in the normal way.

+ Fantastic product with excellent sound quality from CD and DAB radio.
- None really - but haven't found a way of switching off unless I use the plug socket - so always on standby. I've only had it a few weeks - so maybe I will find a way.

Rich, Chelsmford/essex, “A real gadget lover”
+ An all in one design that sounds as good as it looks. A rich tone to the sound and has a quite reasonable 16 watts RMS per channel. A nice slot loading CD which also plays MP3/WMA files from CD, Memory stick or SD card. An extendable aerial at th eback of the device which helps pick up DAB radio broadcasts. Overall an impressive compact unit with no messy speaker wiring.
- Bright blue display which does not dim when the unit is put in standby mode.

Gordon, Blackpool Lancs, “67 year male listener”
+ Easy to use. Smart appearance. Compact. Less than half the price of a Bose Wave for nearly the same sound performance. DAB reception spot on in my area (Blackpool).
- Too much bass on speech channels (typically BBC Radio 4). Would be useful to have further control of treble and bass settings. Display too bright for bedroom use.

+ BRILLIANT SOUND FOR SUCH A SMALL UNIT. MUCH SMALLER THAN THE BOSE WITH INREGRATED DAB RADIO. GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.
- NO SONG TITLES ON DAB RADIO
